\"Ha ha ha\" is the catchphrase of Ji Gong, and \"laughter\" is an important element in Ji Gong culture. In order to promote the culture of Ji Gong, the International Ji Gong Culture Association, Tong Shan Tan and Tung Wah Group of Hospitals jointly presented \"Ji Gong Culture in Hong Kong 2026\", presenting a series of wonderful activities, including large-scale carnivals, Chinese intangible cultural heritage workshops, booth games, talent shows, in-depth cultural tours, Ji Gong culture exhibitions and lectures, etc., with rich content and free of charge. From the 20th of this month, for three consecutive days, we will share the happy divine nature of the Living Buddha Ji Gong with the public.
The chairman of the International Ji Gong Culture Association, Mei Yan, said that among the various gods in Chinese folk beliefs, Ji Gong has a unique divine nature, is close to the people, always smiling, does not follow conventions, and the effect is thought-provoking. Ji Gong's wisdom sayings are timeless and suitable for people of this generation to learn. The 2026 Ji Gong Culture in Hong Kong event hopes to share Ji Gong's \"laughter\" culture with the public, so the event content is varied and aims to make participants feel the happy atmosphere.
Under the same sky, people and pets are happy together, and furry children are regarded as good companions of human beings. This year's Ji Gong cultural event specially added furry elements, and the finale event on the last day was open to dogs. Among them, the \"Thank Ji\" Carnival arranged pet yoga, cute pet show and other programs, and the public are welcome to bring their dogs to attend. There are many eye-catching punch-in spots in the venue on the day of the carnival, and Ji Gong's clothes are available for loan. The public can try on the ragged Ji Gong clothes and dress up as Ji Gong for a day, immersing themselves in its unique cultural atmosphere.
This year's \"Ji Gong Culture in Hong Kong\" event will return to the Sheung Wan Cultural Plaza, which is of special significance in terms of location. The bustling Tai Ping Shan Street Ji Gong Temple is just around the corner. The original name of the temple was Guangfu Yici, also known as the Commoner's Temple, and it has a history of more than 150 years in Hong Kong. It witnessed the history of Chinese people's hard struggle in the early days of Hong Kong's opening up. At the beginning of this year, it was designated as a declared monument. Therefore, the organizer carefully planned a tour route of the early Chinese history of Sheung Wan including Ji Gong Temple, so that participants can deeply understand the historical deeds of Ji Gong as the god of plague removal, as well as the precious cultural relics placed in Ji Gong Temple, etc.
The \"Sheung Wan Early Chinese History Tour\" guided tour, arranged by the Hong Kong History Society, starts from the nearby Water Pit Street, passes through the Tung Wah Hospital牌坊, and finally arrives at Tai Ping Shan Street Ji Gong Temple:
The first station, Water Pit Street: The place where the British army landed on Hong Kong Island in 1841, has great historical significance to Hong Kong. The English name of the street is Possession Street;
The second station, Tung Wah Hospital牌坊: The first Chinese hospital in Hong Kong. The founding of the hospital originated from Guangfu Temple;
The above guided tour is mainly for students, and the venue also set up a\"Hundred Years of Ji Gong Culture in Hong Kong\" exhibition tour, which elaborates on Ji Gong's selfless and selfless teachings and wise philosophy of life. The exhibition tour welcomes the public to sign up. Other activities include Chinese cultural workshops such as rainbow calligraphy, intangible cultural heritage paper-cutting, intangible cultural heritage soap making, and活佛shadow production, all of which are free of charge, and some activities require advance registration.
The third day's event is the finale of the large-scale \"Thank Ji\" Carnival, featuring talent shows such as band marching, children's Latin dance, wearing Jinli Ji Gong clothes and taking pictures, distributing fortune bags, and human-pet integration activities. The public are welcome to bring their dogs to the event that day.
